10 March 2025
Studying is good. Supplementing them with work experience is even better.
A work-linked placement is THE best way to get your foot in the door of the professional world: you’ll learn a trade, build a network and, as a bonus, you’ll get paid. The EEMI team shares its recommendations for securing a work-linked placement before the start of the academic year.

#1 Capitalise on LinkedIn

If you’re not on LinkedIn yet, it’s high time you did! This network is a real goldmine for work-linked training offers. Make sure your profile is up to date, with :

  • A well-stocked CV
  • A professional photo
  • A portfolio of your best work if it applies to your field

Bonus : be active! Comment, like and share content with the companies that interest you. The more visible you are, the more likely you are to be spotted.

#2 Target your search

When you’ve been turned down several times, it can be tempting to send out a flurry of applications in the hope that a recruiter will take the bait. It’s a mistake! Prioritise quality over quantity.
Recruitment is first and foremost a question of matching your project to the company’s needs. Take the time to target vacancies that really match your skills and ambitions. A recruiter will always be more inclined to choose a candidate who can explain why he/she wants to join the company and what he/she hopes to learn.

#3 Use dedicated platforms

Don’t limit yourself to general job boards. There are a number of specialised platforms that offer a wide range of work-linked training opportunities.
The best ones are :

Set up alerts to receive direct notification of vacancies that match your profile and respond quickly to advertisements, because the best opportunities go fast!

#4 Organise your search

With so many applications being sent out, it’s easy to get confused… To keep an eye on what you’re doing, use a tracking table with :

  • The name of the post
  • The name of the company
  • The date your application was sent
  • The status of your application (pending, rejected, interview scheduled, etc.)

This will enable you to avoid duplicates, to follow up at the right time and never be caught off guard if a recruiter contacts you.

#5 Activate your network

On oublie souvent que beaucoup d’offres d’alternance ne sont jamais publiées : elles circulent par le bouche-à-oreille. Parlez de votre recherche autour de vous, vous pourriez être surpris(e) des opportunités qui se présentent :
  • Inform your friends and family
  • Contact former students of the school who are already in business
  • Dare to send a message on LinkedIn to professionals in your field.

A simple exchange can sometimes lead to an opportunity that you would never have found otherwise.

Finding a work-linked placement requires a bit of method and perseverance. By applying these tips, you’re putting all the chances on your side. So be proactive, stay motivated and don’t hesitate to seize every opportunity that comes your way.
Now go and sign your contract! 🚀
